About the Marlborough Historical Society Inc

The Marlborough Historical Society Inc exists to preserve Marlborough's history and to share and celebrate it with our communities.

Our role is to collect, preserve, research, interpret, present and provide historical resource material relating to the natural and human heritage of Marlborough.

We fulfill this role mainly through Museum services, and embrace other activities to inspire and educate our community through heritage and culture.

The Marlborough Historical Society was incorporated in 1955 so that future generations would know something of their forebears and the foundations that they laid down.

President Pam Woodward QSM

After an involvement of nearly 30 years, Pam was first elected President in 2006.

During her term Pam is keen to promote the unique opportunities the Society has to offer to the wider community and to visitors to the Province.

Learning about the early people of the area, bringing the stories of how pioneer children, women, and their families lived, participating in interactive displays of past days, and having fun. This is how Pam wants to encourage children, young people and their families to Cob Cottage on State Highway 1, Beavertown, and Marlborough Museum at Brayshaw Heritage Park.

Ian grew up at Koromiko, and his working life includes 43 years in forestry. He loves horses and the history of their work in town and rural areas. Ian is also keen on the horse heritage of the early New Zealand back country, as well as military aspects of horsemanship.
